Adding a personal reason why this matters to you - such as a connection to forensic science, policing, or a missing persons case - makes your message far more impactful.

MPs receive hundreds of letters. A respectful, clear message is more likely to receive a thoughtful response than an angry or very long one.

Ask your MP to reply and let you know their view. This creates accountability and shows you're engaged with the issue.

If you don't hear back within a few weeks, a polite follow-up is perfectly acceptable and often effective.
